The Builder is among Dave's finest realistic carvings to date. It is a carefully detailed and painted life size representation of a redtail hawk. The hawk is seen soaring through a turn while carrying a branch for use in its nest. The hawk seems to move with patient determination, focused and optimistic. Like many of Dave's carvings the subject comes directly from his observations of the wildlife living in the woods near his home and studio in Kentucky. The hawk is mounted on a California redwood root base and teak pedestal.
